Russell S. Berg, age 57 of River Vale NJ, formerly of Westwood NJ, passed away Thursday May 17, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Pamela (nee Rosenbaum) Berg for thirty-two wonderful years. Devoted father of Daniel, Adam and Ethan. Cherished son of mother Florence Berg and father Harry Berg and his wife Susan. Loving brother of David (Jackie), Michael and his wife Laura, and Cyndy Jaffe and her husband Steve. Son-in-law of Jack Rosenbaum and Renee Barocas and the late Marilyn Rosenbaum. Brother-in-law of Gail Ostrove and Sharon and Steven Nadelbach. Uncle of Ryan, Brittany, Jessie, Lexie, Justin, Alyx, Julianna, Corey, Bryan, Elyse, Noah, and Benjamin. Russell will also be deeply missed by a large extended family, dear friends, and countless business associates.
Russell was a graduate of Westwood High School and Rutgers University where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Business and English. Russell was the Chief Operating Officer and one of the three owners of E.A. Berg Associates in Paramus NJ with his brothers David and Michael. The confectionery and food broker business was started by his grandfather Edward in 1923 and continued by his father Harry and his uncle Edward. Russell was known as the “Candy Man” and was a proud member of the Candy Hall of Fame. He was well known in the town of River Vale for his epic Halloween celebrations giving out thousands of pieces of candy every year. He was an avid poker player, and a huge sports fan rooting for the NY Giants and the NY Yankees. He was an inspiration to everyone that knew him. Russell was a member of the Orangetown Jewish Center in Orangeburg NY.
Services will be at 11 AM Tuesday May 22, 2018 at Temple Avodat Shalom, 385 Howland Ave, River Edge NJ. Burial will follow at Cedar Park Cemetery, 735 Forest Ave, Paramus NJ. Donations in the name of Russell Berg may be made to the John Theurer Cancer Center c/o Hackensack University Medical Center, 30 Prospect Ave., Hackensack NJ, 07601.
